Are AM2+ boards compatible with AM2 CPU's?

I was thinking about getting an MSI K9A2 AMD 790FX, and I was just wondering if and AM2 CPU (5000+ or 5600+) would be compatible with it, just until I get enough money for a Phenom 9750.

AM2+s work in AM2 mobos, and AM2 cpus work in AM2+ mobos. Backward/Forward compatible... does that make any sense? I wouldn't go with phenom though, it kinda sucks, but if it MUST be a phenom make sure it's B3 steppping.

i dont know about all the completely backward/forward capability, but it makes sense since AM2 cpus can be put into am2+ motherboard sockets!

AMD suck at the mo m8 go with INTEL, cheaper, faster, cooler and have more o/c in them

I used to think that too, until I actually put three or four reviews together. Turns out I was wrong. Also, the new Phenoms that are coming out don't have the bug in them, plus the 9750 is clocked at 2.4ghz, which is like the Q6600.

Who said intel is cheaper? No they are not!! For the performance wise then yes but in general they are way more expensive!!

Clockspeed doesn't equal to performance. Clock-for-clock intel beats amd, which means that Q6600 will be faster than 9750 at their stock speeds, plus intels overclock better as a few people have said. But if it has to be a phenom... remember to make sure it's *B3*. If you can't get B3s, you might as well forget about them Phenoms.

intel is definently not cheaper. for the bang for the buck, AMD takes the cake there. Amds r better for computers that are more directed toward light gaming, but that doesnt mean that we arent soldiers. and i believe the original poster asked something about AM2, and AM2+, which is strictly AMD sockets. if i am mistaken, please correct me. So since we all agree that the original poster didnt say inything to do with intel on the his post, dont bring something totally off topic.

The Mobo also says 5.1 Channel Audio, does that mean it has an integrated sound card so I don't have to buy one?

Yeah that cpu will work in that board.
I used that board for a while and I really liked it, it had some great features.
Hope you enjoy it as well.
