Are dynamic disks dangerous?

Hello-

I've been using BIOS/software RAID on nVIDIA motherboards for many years in RAID1 (mirrored) without any problems. Recently I discovered that this setup is all run by drivers - the BIOS only adds a GUI. In that light, I've been giving dynamic disks some thought. Of course it's no substitute for regular backups, but I have had a hard drive die on me before, and RAID made things a lot easier.

Here's my question:

Is there any danger of losing my data from driver error when using XP's dynamic disks in mirror mode? I know in theory RAID1 shouldn't corrupt anything, and can work off of one disk only. I just shudder to think of getting a BSOD one day, rebooting, and seeing all my data gone because the driver couldn't gracefully shut down and corrupted the array. Then again, nVidia's MediaShield is just as vulnerable to that since it's software, right?

Thanks.

Dynamic disks are fine..

I have been using dyncamic disks for years, and i have been using hardware raid for years, and i have NEVER experienced any problem in dynamic disks.

When i compared the performance i also found no difference in transfer rates using HDtune ( the test pc was the one in my sig, except it was raid 1 )

It is really up to you wheter you want software raid within windows or your raid controller to sort out your array.

If you have a raid controller available i would use it though, other wise it would be a bit of a waste
