I am 14 years old. And I am not a hard core gamer. Only for maybe a few games. The prices are in Australian Dollar. And I want it to be around A$2000.
Can be a tiny bit over. If I want to make my own computer from scratch, can you tell me if I am missing anything?

you cannot use DDR2 with any AMD board, you can get DDR1 at faster than 400MHz and use that though

yes that RAM is fine, you'll have to OC to use its full bandwidth. I'm confused as to why you need a 9800pro if you're not a gamer

no, that covers all the major stuff, you might want to consider 2 cd drives though. unless you have your heart set on that Audigy 2, you can save the $99 and use the onboard sound

Is there a good reason i would need 2 cd drives?
To copy disks.......Thats about all I can think of.

EDIT: The parts look good aside from the DDR2 thing. Go to pricewatch.com. Its the best prices on the web. Most places ship overseas.

it is where you make the cpu operate faster that normal. ex. 1.0 GHZ to start overclocking would make it operate at 1.5 GHZ with the same cpu. if im wrong im wrong but if my memory serve me right overclocking a cpu will shorten its life. don't qoute me on that part. but that is what overclocking is in a nut shell. make the cpu operate faster than normal.

If your not a hardcore gamer, you can go with an ATI 9200 or GeForceFX 5500 256MB, works really good for most games. (including UT2004). Im not the expert on ocing, so if you want help on ocing, go to the overclocking thread.

Pick one.

Case: Coolermaster Centurion CAC-T01 Black (400W PSU) $104.50
Should be a decent PSU but check to make sureProcessor:

AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Make sure this is the socket754 version

Power: Antec True550 550 Watt PSU $148.50
Ok so you're buying a PSU ... then get a case without a PSU and save money

Could someone pleasereply?
Sure -- but we dont live here. Im quite certain you can afford to wait a bit

I'm confused as to why you need a 9800pro if you're not a gamer
Or why a 9800Pro or why faster-than-400-ram too

And if I am building the computer from scratch, is there anything else I would need?
A HSF.

Is there a good reason I would need 2 cd drives?
Well for starters you dont have a CD drive.... you have a DVD burner -- and before people get stupid technical with me -- DVD drives suck as CD operations.

oh, that means overclock? Could u give me a short explanation of overclocking?

Unless you elaborate with specific details and exceptions than your memory serves you wrong (because of the nature of such a broad statement)

go to the overclocking thread.
Lol you'd think so eh? :D
