Are "no-name" SODIMM's reliable?

Ebay is trash.

I wouldn't be buying cheap, Taiwanese - no name ram. Spend a bit more, get a reliable brand from a reliable vendor.

The saving a couple bucks is largely outweighed by troubleshooting/returning/replacing said component.

Since it's the same price as Kingston, I wouldn't waste my time and just get something that's more well-known.

And don't forget Kingston, along with most big brand memory companies, has lifetime warranty on RAM.

Downside is... RMA returns of memory would probably cost about the same as the RAM itself. But it's the principle that matters!

Man, what r u guys smoking? My MSI mobo is as reliable as ever. MSI is a Taiwanese company, they make their mobos in... Taiwan...

Most of the RAM chips u buy r either made in Taiwan or China.

Why would I buy from Amazon and have to pay shipping, when I can get an equivalent product sans shipping fee?

Anyways, back to the topic please. Any reliability issue with the RAM module listed in the original post?

Actually I've had no problem with non-name RAM in the past but there are so many different brands of RAM out there and they're all quite cheap these days so you're probably better off just buying from a named brand.

I've had sticks of no-name and branded memory die. I'm just unlucky! :(

/facepalm.

It's all about QC (Quality Control). With an unbranded one, you have ABSOLUTELY no idea what the QC is for that memory module. You have no idea if you're getting good stuff, or bottom of the barrel crap heap. It's risk. It's risk you don't want to take because the price difference is almost non existent with brand name ones.

To further my point, see the listing below.

/facepalm for the second time.

PROTIP: If you want help, don't be an ignorant shmuck and talk to us like we are drug abusing miscreants

We aren't saying not to buy Asian products, we are saying not to buy no-name products, whether they are made in China, Japan, or the USA. No-name RAM can be bottom of the barrel products that were discarded by name brand, and then picked up by resellers to sell at a lower cost. Not to mention, most name brands also offer much better warranty support.

Same to u man. I only want 1 stick, not have to spend $50 just to get free shipping. Plus, I don't want to have to pay tax. With the eBay deal, I don't pay taxes plus get free shipping!

The shipping is ONE DOLLAR. ONE. ONE DOLLAR. Let me repeat that for you... ONE FREAKING DOLLAR. Sales Tax on Newegg is only applied to California, Indiana, New Jersey and Tennessee.

Oh and btw, it's ONE FREAKING DOLLAR SHIPPING.

Why did you even post here if you are ignoring what we are telling you? At the end of the day it's your system, and if you don't mind getting a faulty stick of RAM that may fail on you the day you install it or a year later, have at it. For the very slight difference in price, it's much better to get a name brand stick of RAM.

This thread is full of so much fail.. might as well lock this shit down boys.. We need to start being more aggressive with shit that takes up valuable space.
