Are the savings worth it?

Thanks to some helpful suggestions, I've figured out a nice system I can build for my business computer. I can build it for $750 or I can buy it for $900 from a PC builder who will use the exact same components and give it their 3-yr warranty.

My last computer was built by the same company. They are in a near-by city, so parts can be sent UPS Ground in one day. They've been pretty helpful and quick with the couple problems I've had that required a parts exchange.

So, in your opinion, is it worth $150.00 to put the warranty responsility on this company?

that is completely up to you, if you are unsure about building it yourself id pay the extra $150 but id build it myself if it was up to me.

depends on exactly whats covered in that warranty, if he agreeing to replace parts free of charge within that at any point over the three years then i'd say its definately worth it

If its just for general help on the odd error then possibly not as you could get that advice on forums such as these for free.

I read the details of the warranty and I'm not sure this is as good as I originally thought.

This company gives a 30 day satisfaction or money back guarantee. That part's good. On the first year of the warranty they cover everything - parts, labor, shipping. Very good there, also! On the second and third years, I would have to pay return shipping and a deductible $45 fee. So, even though it's still a slight advantage, many of the equivalent replacement parts on a 2-3 year old computer would not cost that much more. In addition, I'd have to put up with shipment times and repair times. If I do it myself, I can order the part in, and have it repaired quicker.

In my estimation, it seems that the only real value comes in the first year of the warranty. Now, the $150.00 saving on building my own, seems like a more significant amount. Out of the 15+ computers I've owned, I've never had one fail in the first year, (although one did fail at a year and a half) so I think the odds are in my favor.
