Age of Empires II Age of Kings?

I played that game HARD for like 3 years or so. Graphics wasnt great or anything, but I loved that game. Then MSN Zone shut down and the game just kinda died out. I can still play the game via Game Ranger or what ever its called, but theres no one on really.

Is there any games similar to that?
One that has a decent sized following playing it?

Give me some ideas please.

I need a game to play at work via laptop
 
Age of Empires 3 is great. I loved the second game and the third is awesome as well. It looks drastically different and has some feature changes but at its heart it's still Age of Empires.

Age of Empires Online seems kind of a rip off to me. Don't like the freemium aspect of it. Haven't played it though.

Wait for Steam Winter Sales, Age of Empires 3 will drop in price to 15 or lower. I got mine for 10 bucks for all the expansions and the original game.
