Are these laptops good and worth the money?

Sony Vaio are worth the extra coin IMO. I have a old Vaio my sister gave me for Christmas last year, and it still works great.
 
It depends, I know there have been a few really really fragile models over the years. I think most of the modern ones are pretty reliable though.
