hey, heres what i have: i want to play battlefield 2. this is where it gets tricky :D i need a new video card, and im lookin at a geforce 7600gt PCI card, dandy. but to do that, i need a new PSU that can support at least 400W... but i want to 100% KNOW that it will work.

here's the two that filip-matijevic suggested:
Rosewill RP550-2 ATX 2.01 550W Power Supply Retail $64.99

Rosewill RE501-SLV ATX12V 2.0 500W Aluminum Power Supply Retail $39.99

here is my computer: http://www.hp.ca/products/static/presario-desktops/sr1717cl-b/index.php

and here is my motherboard: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?dlc=en&lc=en&product=1822601&cc=us&docname=c00496280

PLEASE let me know if either one of these PSU's will work, and if not, please recommend one (at least 400W) that will

~much thanks to anyone willing to help :D

EDIT: i'll post again with the screenshot of my CPU-Z diagnostic..

I actually dont think this one will work, it only has a 20 pin connector, you board needs a 24pin connector. But you can always buy adapters for that.
oh... alright, well i kinda already have enough i have to get :D

what's your recommendation for a new PSU that i can buy (no adapters or anything) that will work on my computer to support a video card with 400W (6800gs or 7600gt)

watch out for that 20 or 24 pin connector... some support both, some dont. basically you'll see 20pin, 24pin, and 20/24pin. also make sure you get a decent brand like aspire or antec. thermaltake is good too... but a bit pricey for the wattage.
i do NOT suggest getting a rosewill.
haha speak of the devil--> just had my rosewill dvd burner crap out on me like a week ago.
bought a sony the other day and will be shipped tomorrow.
btw i didn't buy the rosewill, it was a gift... ughhh ROSEWILL = LOSE

make sure you have pci-express... and yes that x1600pro will run BF2, at probably medium quality.. however im not too familiar with that games graphics.

Like Fade said, watch out for the 20/24pin. Dont just look at the description, actually go to the picture and count the number of pins, sometimes they are incorrect.

btw i didn't buy the rosewill, it was a gift... ughhh ROSEWILL = LOSE

I have had a rosewill PSU for around 1 year, perfectly fine. No problems at all.

oh yeah, sorry about the wrong recommendation, didn't look if it was a 20 pin, 24 pin or 20+4 pin connector

....and dont buy the x1600pro (crap IMO, overpriced), better go with 6800gs or a 7600gt..... or get a x800GTO2 edition and unlock the 4 disabled pipelines (12+4) and score around 6000+ in 3dmark05 like me :D
