Are UPS really worth it??

I am saving up for a computer and I am thinking whether or not I should get a UPS(back Up Power Supply)? I am on a pretty tight budget and I figure I could always buy it after I purchase my computer. I really don't know how they work, if I have a 550 watt power supply hooked up to my computer, do I need a 550w UPS? Do you think I should buy one or not?

i dont think it is really worth it unless you are running a server constantly, it generally only used in coporate environments and doesn't really have an important use at home

unless you play games and dont save alot, and/or type up long pages and dont save alot... and its Uninterruptible Power Source/Supply :P

Just get serge protector, they are only about 10 bucks at my local walmart and you should be fine. Thats all I have and my pc has survived every powerout so far.

It depends on where you live. My dad uses UPSs for his computers because they have $200 000 backup for surges, he doesn't really use them for the battery. We live in an area on top of a hill where there are frequent lightning strikes, so they were worth the money. But if you don't have problems with surges or brownouts, then the $10 strip is probably OK.

Get a surge protecter. Get that at elast, that will at least make it so power outages dont ruin anything in your PC, and they are fasirly cheap. what your talking about will keep it on after, which is nice so you can save except they are expensive.
