Are X2 cpu`s any good for gaming ?

I want to get a 4400+ for my RIG but i play a lot of BF2 and it recommends at least a 2GHZ CPU. But BF2 is not compatible with dual core cpus so with it running though 1 core wont it run really SLOW ??. Im not to sure how the X2 CPU processes stuff like that !

Please can someone shed some light on it for me. If anyone has a X2 cpu and plays BF2 and other demanding games can you tell me if they are anygood for gaming.

Cheers ppl.

yea it will, that is what ppl have been telling me, if it only plays through one core then it will prolly run like it would on the AMD Athlon 64 3500+
but definatly go with X2...

dude.... i hope it works i am gettiing the amd athlon 64 x2 4200+

althought it only might utilize single core, the dual core cpu will be better now for multitasking and eventually the games you buy will utilize a dual core cpu.

dude... dual core = add a core. if it only uses one of the cores, then so be it... it will still run the game just as well if not better. of course, an athlon 64 2ghz is about as fast as a pentium 4 3.2ghz... basically a 4400+ will be an AMAZING processor for BF2 or any other game... especially quake 4 :)
i play quake 4 and it uses both of my processor constantly... im really glad i went dual core.

the main difference between the X2 and single core A64s is the price.. like you can get a A64 2.4ghz 1mb cache for $300... but for an X2 with 1mb cache per core and 2.4ghz it would cost twice as much i think.

it doesnt actually mean add core, so its not like u can add up the GHZ. it does perform as 2 processors. But a single core 4000+ will play bf2 better than a X2 4200+ and maybe an X2 4400+

my bad, i meant that it IS good for gaming, it will run fine... it doesn't specialize in gaming, but it is good

Duel core processors ARE slower than single core in single core applications. It's probably not as noticable in most things, but if you do the research, they do tend to score lower than single core processors...

are you joking me i have a amd sempron 3100+ and run it on high settings and get good enough framerates that you dont notice any drops or lag.

in what game and on what resolution?

i heard dual core will be required for the future games...
right now, you might not notice a difference between dual core and a single core... but later on, you will see

as i say alot to my friends that have dual cores and play non supported dual core games.... open task manager by cntrl+alt+dlt

find your games process, right click select " set affinity " and just uncheck ONE of the cores

whats the point of doing that?
my computer runs fine even if its a dual core...

It so he can play games that dont support dual core cpus...he really has no choice.

ive just noticed on my own that games that arent supporting dual core... if i have select it to run off of one core... it runs quite smoother *shrug*

well it isn't like the 3500 is bad for gaming. alot of people have said that is awesome for gaming

dual cores is basically like having 2 processors so in future games might require or they might run better with dual core processors, but there is another way of getting 4ghz amd processors with fast gaming. What u do is get 2 amd ahtlon FX processors and get a motherboard that supports dual processor, so u basically have a 4ghz amd with two cores but as they are separate and linked by hardware I am guessing that it treats it as one processor so u would be running games on 4ghz amd processor, but it might not register it as one and register as two so it would be the same as the X2, BUT if u had two processors, you could say I HAVE TWO PROCESSORS ON MY PC and how cool would that be.

yea it is good for gaming!
my friend is getting one i was just saying the that is how the X2 would run, which is good!
the cool thing about the X2 is that it is all around... like good for multi tasking, media, gaming etc:) !

yea obviously... but thats just because the single core 4000+ has 200mhz and in the case of the 4200+ a 512kb cache increase.
what i meant to say that given the same cache, with the same frequency, two cores would perform better than one. (obviously would cost more, thats the difference)
in his title it says "will X2 perform good in BF2" or whatever... my answer is obviously: YES!
