my bro just got a giga-byte mobo and an amd3500. he is using an old hd and ram, but wanted to hook up cpu and mobo. it took us an hour to realize that the reason it wouldnt recognize hd and optical, was IT DOESNT COME WITH IDE DRIVERS! i can understand the need for drivers, although my mobo came with, but at least put them with the board. anyway, if you buy a giga-byte, make sure you still have internet access :D

nope. not in bios or startup. i was puzzled. checked all ribbons and power and everything. after going through this whole site looking for answers, nothing. i finally went to newegg and read some reviews, which is where i found the answer.

and now i d/l'ed the drivers and its 8.9MB. and its supposed to go on floppy? wtf? oh well, ill keep at it. :o

It should make no difference whether or not you have drivers if the BIOS recongnizes the drives. The bios is independent from the OS where the drivers are used. If you aren't seeing them in the BIOS then something else is wrong. Did you check to make sure the jumpers were set correctly on the drives?

And also even if Windows doesn't have specific drivers if the drives are picked up by the bios windows will run the drives in compatibility mode until proper drivers are installed. It might not be as fast but it will work.
