arg...damn pny.

i got an 8800gts from tiger direct via amazon a while back (i had gift certificates for there, otherwords i would have baught from newegg), but the card didn't work. thinking it was my cheap motherboard, i upgraded it with a new asus mobo. the card still didn't work. i couldn't return it to amazon because theres a %50 charge on returning opened electronics products, so i went to pny.com and RMA'd the card.

i just got the new one from UPS today, about half an hour ago, and i notice the box is squished on one side. i open the box and find the video card box is also squished. i take out the card and immediatly see a capacitor on the corner of the card has one of its legs detatched from the card.

now i have to RMA yet another one!
i have definatly learned not to buy electronics threw amazon again. if i had gotten it from newegg i'd probably be useing the card right now.

Dang. That's sucks... I bought a Quadro one time to resell and when I got it it had like 5-6 capacitors rolling around, but I got a full refund including shipping.

Well, the 2nd problem is more UPS's fault. I'd check to see if they have any type of insurance. For some reason I was thinking anything they shipped was insured up to a certain amount.

You have to buy insurance for that to work and I think its something like $1.50 up to like $300 and then it gets more expensive as the prices go up.

i contacted PNY tech support about the issue since yes, it is UPS's fault.

according to the RMA info, they wont be held responsible for damages via the USPS, so i'm guessing they do have some type of policy on covering damages via UPS. if not with pny, then i can report it on the UPS website and (hopefully) they would cover the cost to replace it, and i'd get one from newegg then.

if i'm s**t out of luck with it, then it'll be upto me with my sodering iron to try and re-soder the capacitor.

Resoldering a cap. is VERY easy. I've done it on about 10 Dell computers(about 2 or more on each :P)

Enter the amount you want your entire shipment to be protected against for loss or damage. Depending upon the amount entered, an additional charge may be calculated.
Now maybe I'm getting something wrong here, but doesn't that mean they insure any package sent? I got this from the "Create a Shipment" on their website. I'd definetly call them before doing anything else...

I agree, I can't remember how many P4 systems I fixed by just soldering back some caps on. People throw away their computer onto the street when it doesn't work and what they don't realise is that it might be as minor as a bad cap, while the RAM, graphics and hdd are still functional.
I bought my current gaming system with the proceeds of those finds. :D:D:D It was around $AUD2500. :D:D:D Pretty good rate for a bit of soldering don't you think?

almost 3 months after buying the card and i STILL don't have one.
i had filed a claim with UPS like the pny people said to do. that was 3 weeks ago. i haven't heard anything about it since then.

UPS says to talk to pny. i e-mailed pny and they said to call the rma people and gave me the number. called them last week, got a machine and left a message. they never called back. just called them now and got a machine again.

this is seriously pissing me off. i'm getting close to going to the bank and having them reverse the full charge for the card and filing a claim with the BBB and FCC about the whole issue.

i probably wont buy anything from pny again.

UPS sucks, it is worth the extra $1-5 for Fedex. I hate UPS, my boxes are always damaged in some way from them. When I go Fedex, the boxes are in awesome condition.

I had a problem once with UPS, but the insuance claim worked well, took longer than expected though. It was an underdesk keyboard tray that was smashed on arrival , the box was smashed in

lol. ups just dropped off a card today. and its working fine.
shipping date was yesterday.
guess my e-mail threat and phone message worked.
