Okay so I am looking to get a nice gaming machine that I can also use for web design and graphic design. I almost bought an XPS410 from Dell with the following but another person here on the forum was helping me a lot and suggested that I post and see what you guys can build. The XPS410 had the following for $1100 shipped,

Operating System
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium

Memory 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz Dual Ranked (4 DIMMs)

Hard Disk Drive 250 GB EIDE SATA II Hard Drive (7200 RPM)

Video 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS

XPS 410 Mini-Tower: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6700 (2.66GHz, 1066 FSB)

I definitely want to stay around $1000 and the other thing it must be able to do is play DVD's and write CD's of course (the XPS system had DVD write also but thats not a biggie).

Thanks in adavance!
Mike

It was still available so I put it back in my cart and took a picture.

Strange... I go to dell website a moment ago and try to customize as you did.
No 7900GS can be chosen within XPS 410...

I think you could also consider in outlet section XPS410
Ref: 0GZE6B12 $1039, 01054C8E $1149. Those 2 with 8600GTS graphic card

Nah, I figure I can upgrade the graphics card later if I need to. I just like that E6700 processor and the 4 GB Ram. I was planning on an external hard drive anyways so I don't need more than 250 GB on the PC.

isn't this laptop GPU???
are you buying laptop or desktop???

if it is laptop you can't upgrade your GPU...

PSU = Power Supply Unit

Since you are buying a desktop... that GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) seems like it is for laptop... I reckon any GeForce with a Go somewhere is usually for laptop... I may be wrong, someone correct me if I do...

Oh, I see what you are saying. I wonder why Dell would put a laptop GPU in a desktop. Also, why would that make it unchangeable?

Mike

well, when I said it is unchangeable its because I was thinking its a laptop... but since it is a desktop, thats a different story... sorry for the confusion... :P

No problem man!!!! I figured that is what it was, but I wonder why Dell would do that? Maybe run cooler? Is that 7900 a good GPU?

Naw, I'm pretty sure they just mislabeled it with "Go", because you can't put a laptop GPU in a desktop, they use a different slot.
