Around $700 computer build

Those motherboards aren't all that great. I have G45 version and it's been finnicky at times.

Are you planning to overclock? Also don't get the 8320E, get the regular 8320. The extra clock speed will help and if you're overclocking the TDP on the 8320 is 125 watts while the 8320E is 95.

It's my first build and I have no idea how to overclock, but I wouldn't leave it out of the picture. Would switching to the regular 8320 make a noticeable difference in performance? Also, do you have a recommended substitution for the motherboard? Like I said, my knowledge of this stuff is limited.

id agree get the standard 125watt 8320. Id also change the gpu to something with a definite aftermarket cooler. The zotac one may be the reference design as it doesnt state in the description. id also give yourself a little more headroom and get the 600w version of that psu. Get 2x4gb RAM if you can for added dual channel performance.

Okay, so I've changed my build a bit. Tell me what you guys think.

I swapped out the 8320e cpu for the normal 8320, the msi 970a-g43 motherboard for a gigabyte ga 970a-ds3p, and the 500w psu for the 600w version. I did however decide to keep the zotac gtx 970, even though it might be a reference model.

One thing I'm not so sure about is the mother board, I'm not really sure about how to pick one. I'm almost positive it's compatible and it has good reviews, so I thought it would work.

I've seen the e be able to reach just as reasonable overclocks, sometimes at lower voltages. They are a lot later in the product cycle too so should expect better bins.

Build doesn't seem too bad, I'd probably lean on a higher quality 990FX based one though.

I have a couple 1gb sticks of RAM from my old computer. They aren't very good RAM by any means. Would it still be worth it to salvage those?

If they're 1GB sticks they're probably not even DDR3, which is what you need.

Something else I noticed: the graphics card uses a pcie 3.0 x16, but the motherboard uses pcie 2.0 x16. I know they are compatible, but am I looking at a performance decrease because of this?
