asked for smart card + Password???

I just did a full driver update with Driver Genius PRO, and apparently i have a "Smart Card" reader in my Dell XPS M1710. NOW instead of being asked to press "OK" (to prove i'm human and really want to do what ever) I get asked to insert a smart card and then type in my password. I tried turning off the "Smart card" and Smart Card Reader services, but disable and delete are grayed out. I also tried removing it from device manager, but sam crap.

Not sure if it makes a deference but:
During the same boot up i also told windows to not ask me for a password, and just auto login.

I think your main issue is driver genius pro. Generally those programs are a rip off.

Anyway, smart card drivers do not require a password unless you have associated the logon or a certain program with the smart card service. I have a smart card on my M90 (same PC as the XPS M1705 I think) and have never had an issue. Right now I am not working with the driver on because I am saving space and know I don't use it.

It is asking for the smart card + Pwd combo any time it requires "admin" level access. It now tells me that my account is not admin, but a common user that can "see" stuff, but not make high level changes.

Ya, Right click on Computer > Manage, and i get the Window asking me to "insert card + pwd.

If i click run > "compmgmt.msc" the Computer Management window says, "you are logged on as a standard user. You can view devices settings in Device Manager, but you must be logged on as an administrator to make changes"

well it looks like my account is now a "Guest Account" and i'm not even allowed to do a system restore. crap.

Looking more and more like I should wipe and reinstall.

Go into user accounts in control panel and see what yours is listed at. Are there any other accounts listed that are admin accounts? What operating system are you running?

Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User accounts, Mine says "guest Account", and i get the Insert Card and pwd when i try clicking on either "Add or remove user accounts" or " Manage another account". I'm not being allowed to see the screen that would show other users.

Windows 7 Pro.

I think your best bet is to reinstall windows. We could be here all day trying to figure out how to get you back running.
