Hi, basically i have just today updated my bios using the asus update utility. Now Windows is asking me to activate my license key, saying i have 3 days to activate it. It will not accept my key saying it is already in use. I am using Windows Vista, i had my pc built for me using parts i requested and i was given the oem vista cd with the license sticker on the case, now because i have updated the bios do i have to go out and buy another product key? This does not seem fair. What shall i do? Thanks alot.

hmm microsoft had a thing about day light savings , that it might mess people computers up. make sure your time and day is right . if so try to call microsoft and tell them about your key. MAKE SURE YOU DIDNT DOWN LOAD IT OFF THE NET !!! I had a problem with that with someone this weekend and i called Microsoft and they helped me out on a new key :)

Find your windows - COUNTRY - And they will give you phone number to call microsoft about your key.

is it an oem computer?

flash back to the oem bios

what you needed to do is backup your bios, and install a bios emulator, and then you could have flashed the motherboard with your new bios without windows knowing anything about it

Hi, no my key is legit, as soon as i updated the bios and restarted i got that message :( , my date and time is correct, it's definatly connected with updating the bios. Do you think Microsoft will help me out with this. No where have i heard that if you update the bios you have to buy another product key. I know OEM versions are tied to the hard ware, but i have not changed anything except the bios. Can't belive this. Thanks.

Hi, the windows Vista is a OEm version, but the pc was built to my specs, as in i picked the motherboard, cpu etc, so its not a OEM version like a Dell, HP etc, i pcked all the parts i just got somebody else to put it together for me. Thanks

I dont know a thing about bios emulators sadly, but surely you should be able to update your bios, i have done it before on another pc without having to activate windows again.

the bios on your mobo must be flagged with the correct oem key

in vista, the bios and the product key are intertwined

was there a problem you were having with the old bios? just flash back

Sorry missed part of your post. So you suggest flashing it back. Don't you think Microsoft will give me another key to use?

Hi, everything is fine now, i rang the free phone number to activate by phone, i was then passed through to an advisor, i explained the situation and he gave me the activation numbers :) , thanks.
