I'm not sure if this is the correct area so I apologize if I should be somewhere else. Here's my problem. I am trying to download and view a wmv file from a web site but when I go to play it using either windows media plaer or vlc it tells me "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help." VLC just does nothing. Any ideas on what would be causing this would be great. When it downloads it to the harddrive it saves it as an ASPX file. Why?

have you tried opening the aspx file in a browser and see if that leads to a download location ?
(there are websites which actually does this, you download the html/php/aspx page and you need to open it to get to the actual download)
what browser is this, Opera,IE or FF ?

did you also try changing the extension from aspx to wmv ?
