I am assuming I have a virus on my system, since it is always loaded at at about 30-50% at idle, and gaming has become very slow. Although, I'm careful with the sites I go to, I have a feeling that when my brother was using my computer, he may have visited some malicious sites. So here is my HJTL :

There are a pair of minor values you could fix but a good use of the msconfig utility to reduce items loading along with Windows should isolate the program apparently sticking on you. The two here are sitting idle.

Sometimes video and sound drivers alike have to be redone in order to correct problems. Garbage lingering in the system registry does more to slow down a system if you are not seeing a new temp problem. A good freeware for cleaning up the system registry works well on Vista as well as XP. You can find the RegCleaner at http://www.majorgeeks.com/RegCleaner_d460.html
 
I removed those two entries through HJT and downloaded RegCleaner and installed it, however when I open it, it doesn't respond.. Any ideas? The process does show up, but nothing happens.

When installing RegCleaner the only thing created is the desktop icon. You go up to the "tools" link on the explorer bar seen in that window when started and a dropdown menu will appear when you click there. You simply drop down ro the second item(registry cleanup) and another dropdown menu appears to the right. At the bottom of that is the "do them all" option as the jpeg image here shows.



It's quick and easy to use and reportedly works on all versions of Windows.

The log here no longer has anything items to consider. Have you run the msconfig utility? When was the last time you defragged the hard drive? These are a couple items to look into here. It sounds a lot more like a software problem then anything at this point.

With the msconfig utility you can easily reduce the amount of items that auto load along with Windows. You simply type msconfig the way it's spelled in at the Run prompt right off the Start menu as seen in screen at the link here. http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=runpromptqq8.jpg

Upon pressing the enter key or clicking the "ok" button you scroll over to the far right in XP in next to last in Vista as seen here. http://img172.imageshack.us/my.php?image=startupgroupvistaew8.jpg Here you can choose the disable all option or individually uncheck each item. From the looks of the log you may want to go with the disable all first and then gradually re-enable each item one at a time for sound, video, mouse, bluetooth adapter, etc. to see how things go. A bad install of a program, driver clash, or crosslink to one or more system files can cause problems.

The second section for concern is the services group where you choose the "hide all microsoft services" option to be on the safe side. This prevents you from accidently disabling a needed background service for Windows. http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=servicesgroupvistacm5.jpg

Is this a constant problem or just when doing certain activities like gaming or simply browsing the web? Temps or a possible hardware fault are a few other things to looking at if disabling the bulk of startups and non essential services fails to see any improvement.
 
Well, I know how to use msconfig, been using it for years. Went through it though, found a few things I didn't want to start up so disabled them. I defragmented my drive 3 days ago with diskeeper. It seems to be running a little better, so we'll see how this goes, at this stage it's running good enough when it loads up programs I haven't tried gaming yet, but i'll let you know.

You may have to plan on refreshing some video and sound drivers if you are still seeing lags. The other system tool you can try is the system file checker to see if something was crosslinked or some system files were corrupted by some other means. Type "sfc /scannow" in at the Run prompt to start that up. That can often help by repair or replacing some of the basic system files
 
Nah its all good. Although I"ve been hunting the new drivers for my graphics card.. Any ideas were i could get it?
