Assuming motherboard issue

Hello,
I finally finished building my new computer today. I turn it on and it decided not to POST. I looked up online trying to figure out if other people had the same problem. I have seen posts on other sites about only booting with 1 stick of ram so I gave that a shot. I got a screen telling me that the BIOS needs to be recovered. Now I haven't set up anything software wise yet so I have not messed with any bios settings etc. When this recovery error was up it said to put in a USB drive with the bios image. I hopped on my laptop and downloaded what I think is the image from the MSI site and put it on my external USB hdd. I tried the computer again and it didn't recognize the device. I then reset the CMOS to see if that would help and I still get the same cycle of the computer not finding the image. I have done everything that could possibly come to my mind. Switched dimms with the stick of ram. Added another stick which would prompt the same bios recovery. I'm all out of ideas on what to do to get this computer up and running.

Specs:
AMD Phenom II 6 core black edition 3.3ghz
MSI 890FXA-GD70 mobo
Thermaltake 750w power supply
Zotac Geforce GTX 560
Corsair 4x2gb ram

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
(this is my 3rd build)

Thanks, RoccoR321

As long as you used the brass standoffs between the case and motherboard, I would just rma the motherboard for a different one. Most popular is Asus and Gigabyte.

However, not sure if you can do it with motherboard or not but there should be a way to recover the bios using the motherboard cd. Look in the manual to see if it has that option.

I might have to look into doing that because it wont show any other screen except for the bios recovery even when I put the disc for the motherboard in. All of the lights come on the motherboard and everything looks good until I see the bios recovery screen. I'm going to look into RMA'ing it.

Thanks

My new asus motherboard came in today and I am still not getting a post. My jumpers are in place but I realized that the front ( closest to the front of the comp) is missing a jumper. The motherboard is however not making contact with the case. Does the motherboard know if it is missing a jumper and that is what is stopping it from posting? I listened to my comp carefully and it sounds like things are working I just am still stumped.

As a side note my case only came with 8 jumpers.

The board does require 9 standoffs to be placed on the case before the motherboard get screwed down. Remove the video card and hook up to the onboard video to see if the pc boots up. Try assembling it outside of the case to see if it will boot up as well if hooking up to the onboard video won't work.

They are not called jumpers, they are called brass standoffs. If you request jumpers, they will send you something totally different. You can go to any computer repair store and they should have extra stand offs for sale.

I always have a bad habit of calling them jumpers lol. My friend who taught me how to build computers called them that and its been a bad habit ever since. Ill be checking tomorrow at the comp repair shop near me and hopefully that have some.

Finally got my brass stand offs and still no post. I unplugged my graphics card and used the integrated one and nothing. On top of the fact that my one case fans cord broke from opening and closing this case a million times. The only thing I can think is my ram or my power supply that is causing the problem. This has been a complete disaster and possibly my last build. Might have to stick with crappy name brand comps after this ordeal.

I am currently at work and I started thinking about my situation and I recall that the motherboard has an optional 8 pin power connection. The other 4 pin part has a plastic place holder. I haven't messed with it because I'm afraid I might put too much power to the board. Is that worth giving a try? I'm thinking the processor might need that extra 4 pin to power up.

You won't send too much power through the board, the board will only use as much power as it needs. If your power supply has the 8 pin cpu power plug, then use it. If not, you may need an adapter or a different power supply.

Well 2 power supplies and 2 mother boards later and I am still not getting anywhere. I just got a new power supply and still no post at all. The only thing left I think I can try is getting new ram. If that doesn't work I honestly don't know what to do. My hdd seems to be working so its not that. I just don't know what it could be.
