Asus A8N32-SLI DELUXE Question ???

I'm having an issue with my A8N32-SLI board and my Thermaltake Armor LCS case. I have been trying to hook up the USB 1 and 2 ports as well as the AC97 audio port on the Armor case to the motherboard but I keep on frying the boards and I have also fried a PSU. I am going on the third A8N32-SLI board now and hoping that someone can help me out. I'm hoping that I just have a defective case b/c if I do then Thermaltake will be owing me a lot of money. Maybe faulty (shorted out?) USB and audio cables? I basically just want to make sure that I wasn't hooking up the cables wrong. Is that even possible??? I was hooking up the USB 1 and 2 ports from the case to the top rows (rows with the 5 pins as opposed to the 4 pins) of the USB 1 and 2 ports on the motherboard.
 
For specification information on connecting any extra usb or audio wires you have to go strictly by the diagram found in the board's user manual or when at the support site. Asus has already made it easy to review the manual on any of their models in PDF format. IT'S TOO EASY to reverse or crosswire the connections. Generally there also two separate blocks of small pins with the main power, hard drive leds, reset and power switch, and board speaker connections seen on the block closest to the edge of the board.

You are either cross wiring between pins and somehow feeding 12v to the wrong pins or the wires on the case are crossed somehow.You always double check all connections at the first sign of any problems. You didn't and lost hardwares there.
 
OMG! Just what I didn't want to find out! I was putting the cable on wrong! I was feeding the HOT from the cable to the GROUND on the board and vice versa! I'm so stupid! Oh well, I'm glad I asked this time! Thanks for the help! Do you think the USB cables are still ok?
 
The usb bus itself has a much lower voltage to begin with then the direct 12v dc voltage going to a drive. That would be in the millivolts there. One reason I always go with the Antec round cables these days or at least a good make of ribbon like Asus for floppy cables is that there will be a locking tab on one side of the connector to prevent in most cases what you saw there.

When installing "anything" you always want to do what? "double check all connections". Apparently you learned your lesson for the day. But you obviously fed the12v power feed to the main switch into something else like the usb? Hopefully you didn't cook anything there but simply stalled the system. You will know soon enough.
