Hello All,

I have an Asus a8n5x motherboard with 4 gig of pc 3200 ram installed. However, under system in control panel, it only displays as 3 gigs. But when I check in the bios, and start up screen, it says that it has 4089 extended memory. So what does that mean? a display error? or that my system doesnt recognize the ram?? but it says in the bio that it has 4000 something extended memory. I check the ram itself and the ports, they all works, but when I put all 4 in it still says 3 gig install under windows "system"

Thanks!

You have 4GBs worth sticks installed, which is why it says 4GB in BIOS, but you almost certainly have a 32-bit OS which can only utilize around 3-3.5GB of RAM depending on your system configuration, which is why it says 3 gigs under system properties. This is perfectly normal, the only way to make use of the full 4GBs of RAM is to upgrade to a 64-bit OS, but unless you use some really memory-intensive applications or games I wouldn't say it's worth it.
