ASUS G74SX for a I7 580 - Dumb?

Hey guys!

I need some advice. I bought a ROG ASUS G74SX last year (october) and i am now thinking of trading it for a desktop. I bought it last year with a price of about 1680$. My laptop is a G74SX with i7, 8gb ram, 560M 3gb gpu, 500gb (no ssd).

The deal is as follows (the computer i´m interested in)
Chassie : HAF Cooler Master
MB Asus P8P67 DELUXE
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3400MHz (Cooler Master cpu water cooler)
Ram 6144MB (3 x 2048 DDR3-SDRAM )
NVIDIA ASUS GeForce GTX 580
SSD 64gb Corsair
1tb hd
LED 24" 2ms
Win 7 ultimate

So the deal is that i trade my ROG for the setup above. For me to get it i have too add an aditional 280$

Is this a really dumb deal or is it equal?

Looks like a fair trade, just try and lower the cash you have to give. for that money you can get most of those parts

Yeah, you could build that computer for around $1000-1500, easy. Its just are you willing to give up your laptop for it? Do you game with your laptop on the go or just see yourself playing it at home? Because the desktop will outpower the laptop over and over again. But its not the worst deal if it includes a monitor.

I would be very suprised if you can get all that (24" monitor as well), Windows, GTX 580, and the SSD and the case, PSU etc etc for 1500 bucks. May be but close.

The laptop cant do anything close to what that desktop can do. Totally worth it.

The only issue may be the Power Supply Unit. What exact model are you potentially buying to run that GTX580.

Also, get another stick of 2GB DD3 so that it runs in dual channel (which it currently doesnt).

Awesome answers! thanks so much. I tried to put the parts together my self but did not get near 1500$ here in Sweden. The currency conversions are not that easy though.

About the power supply its a 850W forgot add itin the first post, do not know the manufacturer at this point. I forgot to ask but the person i´m trading with has been running it without problems.

About the RAM i did not get it myself why he had 3 and not 4. It will be the first thing i will purchase. If he took one out i hink it would be a slight performance increase :)
