Im looking at getting a Phenom II 940 upgrade, I want DDR3 and AM3 this was the most expensive MOBO under AM3 in the list at www.pricespy.co.nz

Is it any good? If I look at the AM2+ list there are boards for like 600 ish but this is only 500? But is more modern tech???

Its a nice board. if you choose to go am2 go with the m4a78-e I bought it with a new build, recognized everything very nice board too. Either one you pick youll be happy.

Just noticed that this in qual crossfire is only 8x 8x 8x 8x

Is there no platform where you can have 16x 16x 16x 16x?

The board you picked is a DDR3 AM3 socket. The 940 will not fit it.

There are two, you want the N4A79 not the N4A79T

Yeah I have recently noticed that too. Im now going for the 955 AM3 (unless people here put me off it in my post about it lol)

4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR3 1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 ECC,Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory

Does this mean that I cant use DDR3 1600 unless I overclock? What are your thoughts on this? Cause I cant find any 1600 ram in New Zealand so Im trying to decide whether to buy overseas (more expensive etc) or will the jump from 1333 to 1600 not be noticed enough to spend the extra?

You won't notice 1333 to 1600. DDR3-1333 is sufficient for anything they have right now, cpu and gpu wise
The 955 AM3 looks like a beast too! And it's like what, $245???
