ASUS motherboard help

I have decided to upgrade my second PC to use, but I have a few questions concerning the motherboard.

It is a ASUS P5L-MX (here) MOBO and we are looking to make it so it can run Photoshop CS5, GIMP, internet, Microsoft Office 2010 and a few games for my little brothers.

We were looking at two cards on TigerDirect, but we do not know if they will work on the board or support Windows 7.

If the above aren't compatible with the MOBO, how can I find some graphics cards that are? I have googled for a while now and nothing comes up for me.

Looking to be able to run:
Photoshop CS5 & GIMP
RM Game Maker 2003/XP/VX
Zune
FL Studio
Filezilla
Mozilla Firefox
Games (Like for example; Digimon Masters, World of Warcraft and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion)
Movies
Sony Movie Maker

Thanks for any help,

Risc~

They cards are both compatible with your motherboard.
For the things you want to do, I would go for the Radeon 5770.

Also, basically all you need to do to figure out which GPU is compatible with which motherboard, is to check which slot the GPU requires and then check if your motherboard has one of those slots.
For example, the Radeon 5770 requires a PCIe x16 slot and if you look at the motherboard specs, it will say "x1 PCIe x16 slot". :D

iEvo.

Thanks for posting iEvo! :)

As soon as Microsoft refunds us (someone hacked my mother and stole 100 dollars from her) we will be ordering the card. My father said the Radeon was the best option to pick from as well, so I guess this means doubly so that we'll get it. :D

Also, thank you for the information on figuring out compatibility. I will use this information to upgrade our other PC soon too.

Thank you very much again, for the swift and helpful reply iEvo!
*I would rep you, but there is no such system here.*

Sorry for double post and necro-post, but we got the Radeon 5770 card, but our PC would not install the software needed. Tigerdirect told me it was just that card that was broken, so they took it back and refunded the money. Now they are out of the Radeon 5770 cards and they aren't sure when they will have them again.

So I was wondering, which of these would be best for the needs listed above?

We were thinking this one, but we aren't sure if its compatible because our power supply is 350W output.

None of those cards are gonna have the performance the 5770 does. Newegg still has a 5770 in stock for around $100 but you'll need a different power supply. If you are working on a budget, we'll need to know.

But I would think the 6450 should be fine especially if you can't afford a new power supply. But again, it all depends on the model of 350 watt psu you have.

My budget is 39$-55$, and I think I can only get at Tigerdirect, something about store credit?

How do I check what kind of power supply I have? Is it the sticker on it? It says Power man, 350W Output.

The thing is, you're not just looking at the watts. There's also the quality of parts, number of amps on the 12v rail, and total real output.

For yours, I'm guessing is either an OEM unit or just a cheap one. With those, they test them at idle settings (lower temps than normal) and then sell it as a 350w. 350w just means that's the maximum output they got to while testing it.

The main point I'm trying to get across is, your PSU will not cut it, sorry to say.

So I need to first update my PSU before I can get a graphics card, right? How can I find a power supply that is compatible with my motherboard and case? And then find a card that will work?

Looks like it has 2 12v rails at 10A and 13A.

The 6450 uses about 144w for the total system.

I am not sure if this unit is enough for a 6450. I'll just post these specs and another member can comment.

But a 6450 won't do much in gaming. If you would ever want to upgrade to something more powerful, might as well get a better power supply first.

How can I find out which Powersupply unit will work with my board and case? I have no problem upgrading PSU first and then graphics card. :)

Sweet! Thanks for the list! Makes it easier! And they are black, and blue! Matches my system. xD

What if it doesn't fit my case though? What I mean is, what if its too wide? Does SATA cables and how many hard drives I have effect my choices? My dad said I might have to buy one that supports the same SATA amount etc etc...

What case do you have?

And it should have 2 rails with about 4-5 SATA connections each, so you got nothing to worry about.

Right now, I have 2 black cases. The one I'm using now is really small and the older PC that I ditched for this one (has a broken motherboard) is really big and black. I do not know how to check on the smaller case for what I have (is there a way to check?), but the big one has a vent on the top that says "Aspire" cut designed it and on the door of it, three meters with a sticker that says "Powered by Asus". Both glow blue on the fans and buttons (reset/power buttons).

I'll see if I can find them online. Unless pictures would help...?

EDIT:
Found the big case!

Site calls it: "ATX Tower Case with Clear Side: Aspire Black X-Cruiser Case ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Front USB, Audio and Firewire Ports"

Now I'll find the one I'm using now (the pc that is fixed)
