.. I'm definetely getting this board - but from what I hear, people have an awful lot of trouble with Conroe CPUs on them (the BIOS version was incompatible).

If this indeed happens to me (always be prepared, eh?) - how I do I "flash the bios" to a later/updated version? Will be cuppling the board with some Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 (definetely compatible) and an E6400.

ur basically getting the same setup as me but im not gettin the deluxe version. Let me know how u get on

Unless you get one with the older BIOS version, you should be fine.

It should be ok with the CPU, I think the main BIOS problem was RAM compatibility. Asus has a windows based flash tool you can use that is fairly straight forward.
