Hello everyone,
Almost a year ago I purchased the P5WD2 motherboard from Newegg.com and built my computer. It has run decently since then but it has had some issues and now it finally won't boot up at all. Basically it ran well for the first few months and then the video signal to my two monitors started dropping out at times for a few seconds and so this was a minor annoyance. Later on however my computer started to turn itself off at random times and sometimes when I was opening applications. After this happened I just turned on the computer again, if it would turn on after it shut itself off. Sometimes it would not turn on - I could hear to fan on the CPU and PSU spinning up but the computer wouldn't make the booting beep or even have any indication that the board was registering at all. It also displayed on multiple occasions "Overclocking Failed - Press F1 to go to setup, F2 to load default settings". This happened some of the time as other times it would boot up and then shut down before getting into Windows or freeze.
Now a few weeks ago my computer shut down and every time I tried to turn it on it would freeze during post and not even get to the Windows loading screen. I tried with no avail to get into the BIOS settings but it froze every time. It displayed errors like "CMOS Checksum Bad" as well. A few times of this and my computer won't even boot up at all and no signal is sent to either one of my monitors - I can hear the fans spinning up and the green light on the motherboard is lit and so I know there is power to the board.
Thinking that the PSU might be bad, an Allied 350 Watt, I purchased a new Thermaltake 500 Watt PSU but that didn't solve the problem at all.
My computer specs are as follows:
- Asus P5WD2 Motherboard
- Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz CPU
- 1 GB Corsair DDR2 RAM
- Windows XP Professional
- 80 GB Maxtor Hard Drive (Primary), 160 GB Seagate Hard Drive (Secondary)
- 256 MB Powercolor ATI Video Card (VGA, DVI, S-Video)
- Thermaltake 500 Watt PSU
- Thermaltake CPU Fan
I have tried multiple times to reseat the CPU, I have taken apart the computer fully and reseated every component, I have changed out the battery on the motherboard, I have taken out uneccessary components and taken the side of the case off in order to not restrict airflow, and I have tried to change settings in the BIOS. I am no expert at overclocking and maybe I have the setttings in the BIOS set wrong, but the settings are the defaults and I repeatedly have tried to change the settings back to the defaults but this has not solved the problem. I also have turned off everything connected to my power strip as well and the computer is protected from surges. The computer has been slowly progressing over the months to this point and it is strange to me why it isn't working.
If anyone could help me out with this issue it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
