Asus problem

Hi,
my son has recently bought an ASUS N61Jq laptop and it periodically stops after the asus screen at startup. The only way I can get it going is to do a full recovery via the supplied disk. When i looked up the situation on the ASUS site they recommended downloading update bios 204 which is all well and good but nothing recognizes the type of file so it wont open. Has anyone had this problem and been able to:
1) open the blasted update and install it
2) found a programme to open it
3) worked out another way to fix the problem.
All ive managed to do is trace back a firmware error to the webcam which ive disabled but there seems to be a possible problem when he uses his external drive (WD 1TB) as well
cheers
and thx

try this spog,

start in safe mode, Open Device Manager and expand Batteries.
Disable the entry "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery".
Close and restart notebook in normal mode.

hope this helps

I did this and it didnt help-thx. I think I cracked the problem though-after 2 weeks of hell lol.
I started disabling the ASUS utilities and found that when ASDM (Asus Security Data Manager) was removed from the startup all seems to be running well. I dont know whether it was an Asus, win7 or Kaspersky problem but if it happens to anyone else give this a go-it may help
