ASUS Rampage MoBo question

You cant do SLI on that board!

Only single nvidia.

It's a crossfire board!!!!:)

Excuse me for my ignorance, but what is the difference between SLI and Crossfire? i always thought they were the same thing.

Is SLI=Nvidia and Crossfire=ATI or are they two completely separate things?

Crossfire is two or more ati cards running together.
SLI is two or more nvidia cards running together.
On a crossfire board you can use 1+ ati cards or a single nvidia card.
On an sli board 1+ nvidia cards or a single ati card.

So it is the same thing, just based off of different types of cards.

Thank you!

Maybe I'm readin wrong in short.
You cannot run more that one nvidia card (in sli) on a crossfire board so crossfire= no sli.
And you cannot run more than one ati card (in crossfire) on a sli board so sli= no crossfire.
Nvidia cards will not do do crossfire and ati cards will not do sli.
So if you buy that orginal board it will not do sli.
If you want an board that will run two nvidia cards in sli you need a chip such as the 780i.

Im fine with using the ATI cards idc either way.
Ive heard alot of good things about this board. So i want to stick with it.

What im asking now, if i got a simmilar card(s) to the 260 but an ATI card and Xfired them will i still have room for the PCIexpress Sound card?

The PCIexpress and PCI express 2.0 slots look a little close.

Yes the sound card plugs into the top picexpress slot the black slot.
So it will fit just fine.

Thank you guys. Just wondering which would you guys reccomend Nvidia or ATI?

The 260GTX or the Radeon HD 4870

like scooter said if you look in that picture above you see the little black spot, thats where that card goes.
Then the blue slots are for the graphics cards.
I'd say the 4870.
