this notebook was working fine then all of a sudden it wont boot to windows. it goes to black screen saying it cant read the HD press ctrl alt del to restart. I ran power suite diagnostic on it and it shows no HD or OS. Unfortunatly i have no recovery disk so I tryed to run the al recovery partition under asus recomendations and got a fatal error saying it couldn't run recovery. It said that this is usually due to a device error such as a faulty HD. It does show the HD in the bios so I tried to reinstall win 7 but no sata drivers. I searched for the drivers on the net but to no avail. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. it does show the HD in the bios. could this drive be trashed?

john I ran the seagate tools on the asus and there was no hard drive found and no drive controllers found. Im about 100 % sure thar drive has crashed and will need to be replaced. would u agree?

Not necessarily. You might want to try the drive in another system to see if you can access it. Its possible that the drive can't be detected by seatools because its running in ahci mode.

I have noticed in the asus bios that the default is ahci but, it allows u to switch it to Ide mode.would that allow seagate to access the drive?

Yes, you can change it to IDE and see if seatools can detect the drive. On most laptops you can't change that setting, thats why I didn't even suggest it.
