I recently had a chat with 2 IT guys, who have been in the industry for over ten years, but one suggests Asus is better, and the other one suggests the opposite, what do you guys think , and why?

I assume you mean AMD vs. Intel?

Depends on what you like really. AMDs (if that is what you meant) are a little cheaper than Intels but not always better.

Usually, at the same price point, AMD offer better performance.

However, for no price limit, the X58 platform is currently the "best" as far as performance goes, for the average user. (That means no LN2, or 7GHz on the AMDs!)

I pretty much agree with that. Although not in a ll cases. I think that some of Intel's Core2 Duos and Pentium Dual-Cores have a better price/performance ratio, although the Phenom II X4s in general have a slightly better price/performance ratio than the Core2 Quads. But one thing's for sure: AMD has no processor that can even COMPETE with the Core i7. There's no comparison as to who makes the fastest desktop processors.

We really need the OP to come back and confirm whether they mean AMD/Intel, or if they are referring to Asus and Intel motherboards. If you are talking about Asus vs Intel motherboards, there are lots of other manufacturers out there to choose from as well.

+1

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the only thing amd actually makes is processors. They don't make the gpus either. Just because one mobo or graphics card that supports amd is reliable, doesn't mean another will be.

AMD makes processors/chipsets/Gpu and some other hardware. CPUs are produced by Global Foundries and the GPU by TSMC, the rest by Global Foundries or TSMC. In time I say all their hardware will be made by Global Foundries which AMD still has stock in.
