Here lately I have been having so much trouble with AT&T internet service, It's slow, most of the time I have to retry several times to get the web site to pull up, youtube video's takes a long time to load or won't.
Two times today, when I open a internet it said I had to reboot the system, once yesterday and a couple times last week.

I can only get 3 meg download because of the lines in this area are so old, but most of the time when I go to at&t speed test my laptop is only getting 1.25-1.4meg and sometimes it won't even start up. I can do the test in safe mode and it registers higher so they say I got too much stuff running.


Every time I call AT&T they say it's my computer, well, how come when I go somewhere else it always runs faster, and the they tell I must have been connected to a faster service. Duh, not the computer then.
How can I tell what's running and what can I stop running?

I don't have cable or anything so an all in one bundle ain't gonna work, plus I use Magic Jack.

I guess I wrote all this as a rant but also for some suggestions for an internet provider that has good service and offers just internet without a bundle.
 
Have you tried rebooting the dsl modem? Usually that will reset any kinks it has. How long has it been since you scanned for malware? Post a hijackthis log so we can see if anything can be causing the slowdown.
 
Sorry for the wait on my reply, but been kind of busy.
I searched for hijackthis and I'll have to wait til I get to do it on my laptop.

I have ran malwarebytes and Avira and found nothing.
A few neighbors have AT&T, one doesn't know the password for the wireless and the others I'm going to have to ask around because I'm picking it up but don't know who they are, I'll try their wireless and see if it's any faster.

It doesn't work. It says something about " For some reason your system denies access to the hosts file." It does list a bunch of stuff but it would take me all day to type it in, it won't save it or let me copy and paste.
 
You must right click on the hijackthis icon and click on run as administrator. If the run as option doesn't appear then press and hold the shift key while right clicking on the hijackthis icon.
 
Looks like a long list. I see Norton is the first thing on the list, I just uninstalled it.

So you had avira and nortons installed at the same time? Did you run hijackhtis before uninstalling Nortons? Please download and run the nortons removal tool.

I also need you to post an uninstall list from hijackthis.

Open hijackthis, click on open misc tools section, click on open uninstall manager, click on save list and save it. Then copy and paste the contents of that log back here.
 
OK, gotta wait till I get home this afternoon.
I ran hijackthis before I removed Norton but can't remember if I activated it.

Internet was running somewhat better but yesterday while trying to watch youtube videos, the circle kept spinning and it would finely say it was unavailable to download or something like that. I googled for a review and watch it if I clicked from google, but if I tried from youtube it wouldn't let me watch it.
And I had to click "Try Again" a lot yesterday and even then it sometimes wouldn't pull up the page.

I don't see anything that could be causing the issue. But you could uninstall the following.

Ask Toolbar
McAfee Security Scan Plus

Your issue could be the modem or the phone line. Did you ever reboot the modem? Unplug it for a couple minutes and then plug it back in. Try hooking up a laptop to your internet and see if it gets the same results.
