At what point does Memory performance drop off?

I have an E6600 dual core (2.4 Ghz) that I was running with 2 Gigs of memory.

I'm ordering a new MoBo off newegg, so I figure I might as well get some more memory.

I was wondering whether to get another 2 gigs so i'll have 4 total, or even another 4 gigs so i'll have 6 total. But at what point is it overkill with this CPU?

either run 2,4, or 8gb. 6gb will remove dual channel. Anything above 8gb you wont really notice unless running alot of CAD/photoshop kinds of things. remember the 32bit 4gb limitation though.

So it would be faster to have 2 sticks of 2GB DDR2 @ 1066 than that plus 2 sticks of 1GB 677?
Yes, because you would 1- lose dual channel, and 2- have to run all memory at 667mhz. Sell the 667mhz on craigslist for $15-20 or put it in an older system or something;)
