well...i posted a threaded a little back and didnt know whether to add to that thread or make a new one..so i just made one....this is my question...I have a stock dell dimension 2400 mobo...I have the stock 40gig in there now, and would really like to put a 200gig ATA133 in there...but I
A) Dont know if my mobo can support that big of a hdd?
B) Dont know if my mobo is ATA100 or ATA133?

A) Only one way to find out :) putting it in wont hurt anything
B) Doesn't matter, they are fully compatible with eachother

A)I didnt want to buy the hard drive then not be able to use it
B) I thought that 100 could work in a 133 slot, but a 133 couldnt work in a 100 slot

You can use it (one way or another). Besides, if you read your original post it does sound like you've already got the drive

I thought that 100 could work in a 133 slot, but a 133 couldnt work in a 100 slot
have a look at the hdd101 but again, like cromewell noted, ata133 drives will work in an ata100 interface (at ata100 speeds naturally)

A) Assuming the BIOS is using 28bit LBA your hard drive will be limited to 137GB partitions so you can still use it
B) Nope, its all good 100 in 133, 133 in 100, 33 in 133...

Utterly beffudled

How do I know what my BIOS' "LBA" is, and what does it have to be inorder to support a 200GB hdd?!?!?!

For 200GB in 1 partition it needs to be 48bit or better, if it not you will be limited to a 137GB drive. If this is the case and dell doesn't offer a new BIOS version with large disk support you can pick up an ATA PCI card that will support them.
You could try this http://www.48bitlba.com/hdinfo.htm to test but I don't know how functional the evaluation version is.

oh ok...I was planning on getting an ATA PCI card anyway..that is good to know...just making sure (trying not to be a pain) but your sayin, my bios may be 32bit, but if I put a 48+bit ATA card in, I dont need a 48+bit bios?

your BIOS will most likely be 28Bit, but PCI ATA cards have their own BIOS for managing the drives attached.

JBOD is 'Just a Bunch of Disks' it isn't RAID, if JBOD isn't listed in the RAID options assume it isn't supported
