Athlon 3800+ vs. Pentium 4 650...which is the better chip?

I am going from the Athlon 64 3800+ set up you see in my sig to an Intel Pentium 4 650 CPU set up with DDR2-667 RAM. The prices on single cores are so cheap I couldn't resist. I've already ordered everything so what's done is done but i am looking for some feedback as to if this chip is going to be faster then my AMD. Specs on the Intel chip look a lot better. Here are the two in question...

Thanks for any input.

Yes i believe the AMD is the better chip.. sorry man. :(

edit: though if it is hyper threaded it should perform alittle better while multi-tasking. Hyper threading forces the CPU to believe it has two cores.. simulating a dual core proc. note that it isn't even close performance wise to a real dual core.

It's a mixed bag. Look at the benchmarks... Sometimes the 650 does better, sometimes the 3800 does better. I think over all, the 650 is better, but the amounts are never substantial. The largest difference in gaming performance I saw was around maybe 8FPS. Others I saw 1FPS. I mean motherboards and chipsets can make that difference.

To make it simple, the Athlon 64 would be better for gaming, Pentium 4 better for general use and/or multi-tasking.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. This is to replace that AMD rig so I'm not too disappointed that it wont before better. I am going to focus on my other computer after this. The Hyperthreading...the motherboard says it supports it, do I have to do anything to enable it or does the chip just do it's hyperthreading business out of the box? I was reading a little bit on the net about it...seems like the technology has been around for some time under various names. I also read it's an energy sucker and they run hot.
