Athlon 64 X2 3800

the 3800 in the name wud suggest that its speed is 3.8ghz but its only 2 ghz.

does that mean its not as good as intels cpu's that are over 3ghz?
 
the 3800+ indicates that you can compare it to a CPU with runns at 3.8GHz.
(but the real clock speed is lower,.. but thats because its a lot more efficient )



at least, i think thats a good way to say it ;)
 
i never knew that. Thought it was just stupid labelling on amd's part :). Also amd's are much easier to overclock so u cud probably get it better that 3.8 ghz pentium
 
so technicaly a Athlon 64 X2 3800 is faster then a Pentium 4 3.6GHZ processor?

faster no the x2 is clocked at 2ghz and the p4 is clocked at 3.6ghz
but then speed does not equate to perfomance

the name means nothing. but marketing people know people will insist on trying to associate a "ghz" number with it.

thats because its not the case (well anymore). one could argue the three-digit naming convention for Intel chips to be stupid as well

also AMD's are much easier to overclock so u cud probably get it better that 3.8 ghz Pentium
