Athlon XP vs. Core Duo?

Hi all, my desktop has an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ & 512mb RAM, and I'm looking to buy a new laptop with a Core Duo T2300E (1.66GHz/667MHz/1 X 2MB L2 Cache) & 1GB RAM in it. I have no idea how desktop and laptop processors compare to each other.

Should this laptop perform close to or better than my old desktop?

The core duo will outperform your Athlon XP. The core duo has dual cores and is just simply faster.

@ Angel.of.Death, he said core duo, not core 2 duo.
