To use Crossfire, you need to have alteast one card which is the crossfire edition. The other one can be a normal X1900XT. That's what I think, anyway... I'm not completely up to date with Crossfire, so I don't know how trustworthy my post actually is...

That is correct. You can purchase a regular X1900XT now, and get an X1900XT CF edition later if you decide to crossfire them.
