ati 2900xt

In most games it is. Not as great as the 8800GTX but it's ok I guess. If the price came down just a tad it be a very easier recommend.
 
The early reviews seen on the new lineup pointed at the R600 model chip seeing a performance gain even over the 8800 series cards. The make of the card using the same chip is one thing to go by for this. While looking over the RX2600XT models offered by Sapphire, Asus, and MSI MSI took the lead with seeing a faster core clock and faster memory clock on a GDDR4 model card. Here that was seen just after ordering the GDDR3 version that selling fast.

The 2900 series is the higher end models for ATI. The RX2600XT had a 850mhz core compared to the 8800's 750mhz and saw a 2300mhz memory over the NVidia model's 2100mhz memory clock. Look over the specifications between makes and models at things like these. NVidia is still a performance driven type while ATI has worked more on improving image quality. OCing always veries between different model cards by diffferent makes.

Um, probably. The 320Mb and 640Mb are very much the same. The extra 320Mb does not give extra performance when gaming on high resolution except when AA and AS are enabled. SO the 2900 will outperform them both.

Can't compare specs between cards, architecture is too different to come to any sort of realistic conclusion. To compare different cards one need to focus on benchmarks.

It doesn't take much to know that one model card with a 1400mhz memory clock won't be quite as fast as one seeing a 2300mhz clock will be. Benchmarks have their limitationa as well since each game driven benchmark only shows results for one game or one program on a limited selection of cards tried.

You could have 2 similar NVidia and ATI cards compared and simply see one win out simply by the other seeing a lower core and memory clock by choice of make. Brands like EVGA, MSI, BFG, and a few others usually fare better over others simply by things like that making the difference.

Benchmarks do not show only one game, they show many, making sure to include many genres of games too. They also show many different comparison cards as well. they are clear and precise indicators of performance.

Comparing cards simply by looking at the specs is much harder than you allude to, Giving the same line of thought the HD 2900xt would be worlds better than the 8800gtx, giving that it has 320 stream processors, a higher core clock, and only a slightly lower memory clock. Obviously not true. Comparing cards by their specifications is a fools errand, you will make many mistakes. The obvious exemption would be when comparing cards of the same core architecture, such as G80's.

And just what reviews are those? While some reviews show several model cards and a few from each game catagory the software is too wide range to cover everyone out just for XP compatible alone. Some games will simply run better on one make or the other by nature of software design. One example was older ATI AGP cards seeing problems when the Catalyst control center was running.
 
okay ! after i have done multiple researched ! i have finally bought the 8800GTS 320MB!! some of those who have reply to the author have false informations. please don't mislead other people

all games tested from the reviews are HIGH END GAMES which means requires HIGH END CARDS inorder to play in MAXIUM settings without lags from your graphic card.

what says on the paper stays on the paper. no matter how impressive it sounds on the paper but can not prove it is the same as talking blank. it is true accroding to the paper HD 2900HD is suppose to be way faster but after testing it just doesn't! we don't know what is wrong with it but thats the fact. Even, the 1 GB DDR4 version is somewhat slower or equal to 8800GTS 320.

8800GTS 320MB is faster than HD 2900xt

8800GTS 320mb is more power efficent than HD 2900xt

8800GTS 320MB ( somewhat hot ) runs alot more cooler than HD 2900XT ( 2900xt can blow dry your hair after shower, thats how hot it runs )

8800GTS 320MB have better anti aliasing goes all the way to 16 while HD 2900XT finally goes to 8 or something like that

FOR 8800GTS 640MB:
Most gaming it is serveral FPS faster than 8800gts 320mb
gains a boost when playing memory hungry games over 8800GTS 320mb. FOr, atleast 10 FPS or greater on the games that the reviews have used.

HD 2900XT:
as always ATI always have better pictuer quality over Nvidia
drivers are frequently updated == lesser bugs and issues
runs very hot
power hungry <--- need to upgrade their PSU for some people
just came out not for long need driver improvement. ( gambling you might or might not get a good or satifying boost from improved driver)
can be used as a sound card ( from my understanding )


In conclusion, if you like to use MAX settings for your gaming then i would recommand you buy 8800gts 320 or 8800gts 640 mb or even 8800GTX ulra.
if you are not a very professional gamer and you like good pictures and lesser problems and you need a good case to keep HD 2900XT. Then, you would want to consider the HD2900XT. However, it is said that HD2900XT is cheaper but you can get 8800GTS cheaper than HD 2900XT on ebay

i would assume you have a 25CM fan on your case to cool it. it is because i have a 25CM and 2 90MM exhaust fans and my 8800gts runs hot and makes the back of my case where the spots near my 8800GTS warms. HD 2900XT will definitly make my case burning hot. what i would suggest is you wait for sapphire toxic water cooler or maybe thermaltake tide mini water cooler for your HD 2900XT. if you are getting the HD 2900xt
 
Gee? The prices seen on 8800s and HD 2900s would make your head spin! The NVidia models catch $700-$1000 while the HD 2900s see between $370-$500 on those. I'll stay with the RX2600XT for about $135 and still run games at high settings for far less.
 
you got to be kidding me. i got my 8800GTS 320mb for 270 used only for 1 month on ebay ! came perfect condition no sign of used all accessories included. they don't cost 700 - 1000 except if you are buying 8800GTX ULTRA! it is cheaper on ebay too! its only around 600 bucks. you can get a brand new HD 2900XT in BOX with game for only 320- 350. way cheaper !!! and 2600 isn't really that great. i would like to run games such as company of heroes in maxium setting which means thing are set to ULTRA. and 2600 can not handle that, infact i doubt it that it can handle high settings
