I am building a new computer, but i am taking steps and building it over a period of time. The first thing i'm going to do is upgrade the graphics card. I'm looking at this card (which is an awesome deal) :

My motherboard only has 1 PCI Express x16 slot. Will this card fit and work in my system? I know i will need a new power supply as well. This is what i was thinking of:

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

What case are you using..

compatibility wise you should be fine but make sure the case is big enough to accomodate that card.

under 100 bones for that card is nice score.

The card is by a good manufacturer while the supply isn't for the most part. The problem with the card however is simply being an open box one way ticket where someone had returned it for an exchange rather then getting a full dealer return and manufacturer's warranty.

The 3870s were the high end models in that series of ATI driven cards. You may want to find a deal on a retail buy by simply paying about $10 more with the promo seen on the same model at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102719

The card will go into any PCI-E 16x slot since that is standard. You can even use the card on a PCI-E 1.1 not 2.0 board like you could run an AGP 8x/4x card on a board seeing an AGP 4x/2x slot. The new supply will depend mainly on whatelse your build will be seeing like additional hard drives, expansion cards like tuner/capture cards, sound card, and other addons as well as plans on ocing.

If you were in desparate need of one exact make and model card and now soldout/discontinued then you might grab an open box package. But for most of us buying retail or OEM with a return policy and warranty is the thought there. The extra $10 is definitely worth it in case of any defect for sure.
