ATI 5970 Question

I just received my new card! I am trying to see if everything is ok. I know the whole Windows exp thing is strange but my 5870 = 7.8, 5850 = 7.7, and 5970 = 7.7. CPUZ shows 1GB of memory, should it show 2?

Thanks

Windows experience index means almost nothing, don't worry about it. Only one core gets tested with the WEI.

Did you mean GPUz?

It's shows 1gb because it has 1gb per core. It's literally two of everything crammed onto one card, the memory is not shared it's two 1gb's. At the bottom left of GPUz, there's a little drop down menu, there's should be two and also crossfire should say enabled 2 GPU's.

EDIT- Ihatethedukes beat me

I bought a Diamond card. I had a funky problem installing it because of my old drivers (I think) where it would just run the fan at full speed durring startup and not display anything. I think that is fixed now but I want to check everything.

I have a drop down on my system memory but not the GPU memory.

I think everything is ok. Do I need to set anything up in the CCC for this to work right? I did the 10.1 or whatever update.

I only have CPUZ, should I get GPUZ?

It wont turn on right now, the card justs runs at full fan speed. It did power up once and said failed overclock? Then it did the same high speed fan thing with no display and the red lights on the card lit up.

How do I fix this? I am not overclocking anything. I changed the PSU and GPU today. Both brand new and updated in my sig.

Your board is probably doing something screwy with the ram. Check it out in the Bios, check what speed and what timings it's running.

What ram do you have (exact model)?

You should set the timings and voltage for it manually in the Bios. Sometimes auto will default to 1.50 volts when it needs to be at 1.65. That will cause it to not be stable.

Clear the CMOS and then reset the bios settings. I would also consider overvolting the board to improve stability. Just watch your cooling.

Thanks for everyones help. It looks like I fixed it, the GPU was bad, returned it for a 5870. Maybe I will get another 5970 when they are easier to find locally.

When you search google for 5970 wont reboot you will see this was not an isolated incident.

Time for an update in case anyone ever finds this thread in a search. I was talking to a guy at Fry's who told me about a place in San Jose with a 5970 in stock! For those of you in the future, it is hard to find one of these right now!

I bought a 5970 Saphire OC and it works! I keep turning the computer off waiting for it to freeze. The computer is the same as when I had the first 5970 that would not restart even if you just ran it for 1 min.

I need to spend some more time with it but I ran it on NFSS in some races that worked my 5870 and could not drop the frame rate.

It is nice to confirm my first card was a dud also.
