ati control panel question

i play FPS games competitively. i recently discovered, on ati control panel, there is displays-> monitor->advanced tab, where you can "adjust" horizontal, vertical and composite synchronization. i was wondering what these actually do. i see some differences in game when i shoot, but do not know what the optimum setting is. first i thought it was something like "wait for vsync" but they didn't seem to cap my frame rate. my monitor works whether these settings are selected or not but still the differences are there (looks like there's a diffrence in mouse movement). if anyone could tell me about these settings i'd appriciate it. by the way i own samsung 900nf. thx

On a monitor each frame consists of lines. These lines are transmitted from top to bottom from left to right. A horizontal sync signals define the end of each line, while a vertical sync signal defines the end of the frame. The composite sync signal is obtained combining these two signals into one, but it works only on composite monitors. So don't select this option unless you're sure that your monitor can handle that kind of signal.

what is the default settings for these options in geforce drivers??
for example, ati default setting is horizontal sync only.
thx again for your help.

I dunno i dont waste time with "synching" im too busy playing :) ... if ATi only has horizontal synch controls then ATi driver writers have been smoking crack ... the more important of the two synchs is vertical synch...
