ati crossfire

I am sure most of you have known of the latest pci-e graphic card from ati radeon: HD2900
I am also sure most of you knew that it has dual graphic card crossfire support.
My question is, do I need the HD2900 where I do not use the dual graphic option?

It's hard to understand to.

Yes the HD2900XT is crossfire ready, but it can be used as a single card. And unlike the previous cards from ATI, there arent separate versions for crossfire and single (master cards and slave cards).

It might just be me, but i don't quite understand that question.. could you rephrase?

OK. I shall rephrase it for you. Basically there are many ati radeon graphic cards with crossfire fucntion support. Some of the great examples you would see are the X1650XT, X1900XT, X1900XTX, X1950XT and the HD2900XT or rather to put it very very simply, those cards which ends with a XT.

My question is, I do not plan to use the crossfire function of the card because it is too expensive to buy two graphic cards. I am just intending to get a piece of good graphic card "ONLY" for gaming etc.

Will it be a waste to buy example lets say the X1950XT card but I do not use the crossfire capability and mix it with a non SLI ready and a pretty low end motherboard with only one pci-e x16 slot? Will the X1950XT produce great output if I use it this way?

Well it's not only the XT's that can be CrossFired, but I see you're point.

As I said before, I run a single HD2900XT and it runs games great! There is no need that you would need two of these cards, and if you dont intend on running two, theres no reason not to get them.
