I recently purchased a Lenovo IBM ThinkPad T60p that comes standard with the ATI FireGL v5200 256mb Mobility card. I haven't received my laptop yet, so I have a few questions before hand. I understand the card is meant for CAD/3D environments, a mobile workstation gfx card. Either way, I was wondering how this card will perform in the latest gen game applications. I'm talking about games such as F.E.A.R., HL2, DOOM3, and others of that graphic nature. How does this compare to the ATI Radeon X1400 128mb as far as gaming applications?

I had the option to purchase a fully upgraded T60 (which had the X1400 14.1" display 1400x1050) t2600 2.18ghz (2.13ghz? cant remember) and 2gb ram. I chose the T60p T2500 2.0ghz 4gb ram and firegl v5200 256mb with optional 15" display 1600x1200.

It will perform better in games then the x1400 in most areas, since it's a very nice card. However it's not going to be drastically better in games, and the x1400 may pull ahead in a few.

Is there any specific reasoning behind the V5200 performing better then the x1400 in most areas but the x1400 pulling ahead in a few others? Which areas do you think each graphics card will excel passed the other in?

Well i've only seen benchmarks, and the FireGL does better in 3DMark03 then the x1400. But since its not a gaming card there really arnt many benchmarks for it.

I see, thanks for the info. I couldn't find any benchmarks for the FireGL v5200. If anyone has anything else to add, feel free. I'm searching for as much info as possible before I receive my machine.. it doesn't seem like it'll arrive for a couple weeks ;/
