ATI HD4870 Problems while running F.E.A.R

So ive been able to play Crysis, Grid, and a few other games with max settings and have been fine.

Recently installed F.E.A.R, went to canIrunthis.com and my system passes the games recommended requirements by quite a bit. So I set everything to maximum, and it looks fine until a few guys come out an I start shooting, I lag up and glitch around.

Seems like I shouldn't have a problem running F.E.A.R at maximum.

Any suggestions?

I have the latest DirectX for XP, and use catalyst 8.6. I tried updating that but it has never worked for me. But I dont think my drivers would be causing it.

Yes, game is fully updated.

Ive tried updating to the altest version of catalyst, but it messes up my display.

Ill run fraps and get some screenshots. Im sure my FPS is going to be a lot lower than it should be.

Im also trying to update ati again and see if ti works. I think I got the drivers in right, but CCC is being screwy. Ive ahd bad luck with updating drivers for years now. Its a curse. haha.

I just did. Forgot I could just get the driver and not anything else.

Anyways, just standing around I get 200-300+ fps. Running around it stays around 200fps, but when shooting it will drop down to 100fps, and I notice just little lag when in combat while unloading a full clip of a machine gun, which puts me around 80 fps. I think I saw it go closer to 60.

Those don't seem like horrible framerates. Instead of you going in and maximizing everything, have the game detect your system. There are a couple settings in there that no matter what system you have, will destroy your performance. I know that because I have essentially an identical system and I play F.E.A.R. :)
