I have a P4 1.3 with 768mb of PC600 and a 128MB Nvidia( cheapy) card.
I couldnt play EQ2 so before I went out and rebuilt my whole system I wanted to give one more upgrade a try.
I bought a ATI 9550 with 256MB of Ram, I went from a 3Dmark score of 358 woth my 128 to 5937 with my new card LOL.
I can now run EQ2 smoothe, Im telling you guys its not about the system its all about the videocard for gaming.
The card cost $100 at Walmart to boot.

What was the nVidia Card?

Is that 3DMark2001?

$100 for a 9550 is way overpriced, you can get a nVidia 6600GT for around $115, which is much better

Well theres the reason, a MX400 is a very old card, if you upgraded to a FX5700 for around the same price, you would see the same or better performance than the 9550.

5000 isn't that impressive. Hell my old card got 4545 in 3DMark05! And my card before that in my previous system got 8000 in 3DMark01!

You got screwed man...and you're old card was messed up too as it should of done better... I beleive those are actually GF4 MX440's...or about the same performace as them

On my old system, i got 3805 in 3DMark01 with a 9200SE 128MB, then i upgraded to a FX5500 256MB and got 7642, so any upgrade from that card would have made a huge improvement

I had to keep in mind my PSU, this card runs nicely on a 250Watt PS.
The 6800GT wouldnt turn on under that PSU.
Plus keep in mind I did get that 5937 under a P4 1.3 with only 768MB of RAM, what were you systems on which you scored 7000+??

Its amazing how high 9550s are sold. I got ripped off mine for $130. I could have bought a 6600GT with that.

I don't think I've ever seen a good video card deal at a store like BestBuy or Circuit City. People get ripped off by the attractive packaging with a card like the x300, like Geoff said. I saw someone buying an FX5500 for somewhere around 100 recently.

Haha, well since we are talking about getting ripped off, I bought my 6600GT 128mb for 250 from Best Buy because I didn't know what I was doing and I was just like "what? 8 pixel pipelines? That's got to be awesome! 300Mhz core clock! Damn! That's gotta be good too!" :P

I disagree its not all about the video card, you need need one that has the tech to support the game, then you need your other specs to be good ;) IMO anyways.
