Basic question.

Asus 4890 Dual fan
Gainward GTX275 Dual fan

Money is not a problem. I don't want DX11 suggestions, or any other card suggestions.

What would YOU buy?

Nice, simple, easy. Poll!

Go :P

I'll be ordering one of the above on monday.

I'll be adding this poll to another forum, when the time comes I'll add all the results up together. :)

ohh man your still have not decided?:D

4890...like i said on Steam,It just eats through any current games and still gets great framerates.

But im not saying the 275 isnt good...im just very happy with my card :)

Lol its funny actually.

I first ordered a 4890, but entered the first Inital wrong, mine instead of my dads.

Payment error occured :P Thought okay, cancel order then reorder.

Whilst waiting for the order to cancel I started looking at reviews. I'm more of an nVidia guy and see it was doing slightly better at the highest resolutions.

Changed my mind, ordered. PAYMENT ERROR. Dad then calls back saying he has no cash in his account because he's spent £500 recently on flight tickets for work.

So we now have to wait for Saturday for money to go back into his business account untill I can order.

So I can now order one of the cards on Monday, Sunday if I'm lucky.

Time to ponder.. lol

I like the 4890 because of the GDDR5 & the fact that Asus packages it with voltage control software.

BUT

Like I said I really like nVidia because of drivers & AA manipulation, all the reviews I've read so far conclude with the GTX being better by something stupid like 1%....Basically they're equal.

I can OC both cards, Asus card apparently has buggy software right now.

Can't decide.

It's either going to be a decision made upon the outcome of this thread, or a spur of the moment order :D

Also to note the 4890 1Gb of memory....275 has 896?

I know its not a huge diffrence but, that extra memory would halp in gta iv :)

Look at the poll results! THE POLL!!!

I haven't seen the votes yet as I haven't voted myself!

I'm going to wait untill I can order and have a suprise, You guys are basically making the decision, I'll have a card honoured by CF!

Bad software is enough to make me not buy something. Not to mention the GTX 275 has PhysX which the 4890 does not.

The 4890's an overclocked 4870, the 275 actually has something better than the 260, more stream processors. GDDR5 makes no difference if the performance is the same.

I voted 4890, but you do realise that a 4890 is pretty much just an OCed 4870 right, so you could buy a 4870 for cheaper and just OC it yourself

The 4890 uses a variant of the 4870 core, for slightly optimized power usage and slightly higher OCs, but I'm pretty sure you could OC a 4870 to 4890 levels, all in all having to release an OCed card just to try to compete with NVIDIA is desperation, they should've just waited for the 5000 series to come out.

Okay thanks so far, if anyone's voted! Still haven't checked ;)

Bump. :P

Wan't to get as many votes in as possible before deciding time

Theres a bit more too it than it just been an overclocked 4870 :)

Yeah, you can simplify it to that in a way, but there are differences. Yes, you can OC a 4870 to 4890 levels with a bit of luck, but the 90's clock like mad dog's in comparison to its little brother. Bumping it wayyy past the 4870 after an OC. Granted, compared to the 275 though, the difference is still minimal. Slight advantage may be gained from the added memory and clock speed though. I voted 4890 anyway, but I'm sure either or will be fantastic for you.

im a strong believer in nvidia. Faster core clocks, fill rate, memory clocks. the only thing ATI usually is superior in is stream processors, but since the gtx series does not push the core clock as high as it should be....
im voting 4890.... 800 stream processors at 850 Mhz faster memory clock.. its overall better and cheaper.

sry nvidia.. i love ya but 4890 is better...

If GTX 275 and HD4890 cost the same. Then GTX 275 would be better choice without any doubts. Nvida supports Physx, better OpenGL support, better drivers, and CUDA

As for performance, they both perform about the same on average. But remember that there are many popular games that are optimized for Nvidia like Dead space and Modern Warfare 2

Well it's orderin day!

Looks like I'll have to order both!

Whatever happens someones going to get a new 4850 and be VERY happy with it! :]
