ATi Radeon HD5870x2

Thing is, once you reach a certain price point (around £200-300), You're paying more and more for less performance gain. The Ares card(£800) gives around 80% better framerates than a stock HD5870 (£280), but definitely doesn't cost 80% more. (500 more) Compare this to a cheaper card (GT220) and say a GTX460 (£180) you're paying less for a much bigger performance gain. I personally, (unless I had unlimited budget) would never purchase anything more powerful than a stock HD5970.
 
I have one of these cards and it is massively powerful i could just imagine two would be huge performance.
 
Look, you have to balance the whole computer. It is a complete and utter waste of money to get 160FPS on a 24" monitor by spending so much money, when you wont notice the difference between that and half that FPS. Complete nonsense.
