whats your pros and cons on the ATI Radeon X800GTO 256MB ?

i have a nvidia geforce 128mb and it sucks the cock. so i wanna upgrade t 256..

i play games like

just to name a few;::

1) Half life 2
2) World of Warcraft
3) Need for speed underground / carbon etc..
4) Quake 4

you know.. all those modern age games

so post your suggestions.. shit card or a good card? should i get it ?

What MODEL card do you have? The amount of RAM means very little about the card. I could probably find you a card with 512MB that's weaker than your current card.

Here's a good site to compare cards at. I don't see the x800GTO right off, but they have some other x800 series. I suspect it's about the same. And it should play all those games just fine.

Hey The Ati X800Gto 256mb Agp 8x Is A Good Card And You will Be Pleased With It Way Better Than The Nvidia 128mb Card Also You Should Be Able To Play Those Games As Detailed Above On High Graphics Settings.

I know a con for it, it starts with "ATi" followed by "X800GTO". :P As you can tell I'm not much of an ATi fan, its because their cards at the moment is overpriced and under-performing. I use to have a X800GT, sold it to another unfortunately soul, it costs more than the 6600GT and yet it performs lower than it.

The X800GT is actually ATi's second attempt at rivalling the 6600GT, it was the X700 pro originally, but that was a complete failure, so they brought out the X800GT made from leftover cores of the X800XT and X800XT platinum but will pipelines lasercut and clock speeds reduced.

I used to own a X800GT and I wasn't too impressed with the performance I'm getting for the price I paid for it.

I myself like ATI for what I have, but then that's the 9250 and that's a different era times 2. Personally I would go with the 7600 but I'm not too informed on everything and I don't know the price difference B/W the 7600 and the x800. I know you probably won't but don't go with the 5600 my friend had some issues with that.

You're alot safer going with something like an nVidia 7600GT over an ATI card for 2 main reasons which have been said already in this thread:

1. ATI are overpriced for the performance they offer.
2. With the cards ATI say the card is to rival an nVidia card, they tend to either be worse, or not worth the potential gain as the price difference is far too great.

You could spend that same amount of money on an nvidia card and get better performance.

Also notice that the nvidia card is retail, has a faster clock and core speed. Enough said?
