Ati x700 value

Hi, i look for a computer and i have the choice of ati 9800 and the x700 for aproximatly the same price. Which one is better?

I believe the X700 is better because its newer, probably new chipset, and better clocks (lemme try to check this for you). And make sure you know what kind of slots you have in your motherboard. If you don't have a PCI-Express slot, I don't think you will be able to use the X700. And the Radeon 9800 is a AGP 8x card i believe. And which versions of the card are you planning to get? (LE, SE, Pro, or just regular?, etc.)
 
Depends on the X700 ... whether it be the Pro or the XT ... in general the X700 is a better card i would say (defintiely so compared to the archaic 9800 but im guessing your referring to the 9800Pro/XT?)
 
are there any x700XTs for retail yet, or for a reasonable price? I thought ATI couldn't get anywhere near enough fabed so they are going to replace the x700 with the x800s and let the x850 take the x800s place

Apparaently ATi is keeping the X700XT for themselves ... their retail partners only have access to X700Pros ... and knowing ATi .. the prices wont be reasonable
 
For $299CAD you can prolly get a 6600GT which in general is a better deal. Or wait a month or so and grab a 6800 :)
 
i think you'd be better off with a 6600GT really, and i think they are cheaper. but if your an ATi fan i guess you might be stuck with the X700. i really don't like any of the X### cards cept for the X800, the rest are budget versions and don't perform very well next to nvidia's cheaper and better performing model like the 6600GT (or like Praetor said the 6800 if you can afford it).

The X700 has 6 vertex shaders whilst the NV43s only have 3. :P (of course you cant unlock them the same way :P)

but the nvidia 6600GT performs better in almost every benchmark i've seen, with half the shading capacity (is that like pipelines?) I know it still loses in some, and the real-world difference is next to nothing...but personally i would still pick it.
 
The 6600gt is better than both of those. Also Im pretty sure that the 9800 is AGP and that the x700 is PCI Express. So one of them wont work. I would suggest a 6600gt or a regular 6800. I was able to find a good deal and i got my BFG 6800 with far cry and half life 2 for 250 at best buy.
