ATT Small Business

We're looking into getting the Elite Small Business Package. We currently have the Elite Residential package. It comes with some nice perks, and stuff I personally can benefit from. Due to my location, we currently dont get the full 6mb/768k. Though there is an ATT building by us, which looks like it hosts servers, which would make sense, its near the city, so it would supply business internet.

Here is the link.
ATT

What do you think?

If you don't get the full speed of the advertised connection price for residential (which most people don't), then i doubt you will for the small business plan. Why pay twice the price just to *possibly* get a bit more out of your connection?

BTW, the link doesn't work, as it needs us to enter in our phone number or zip code.

Alright. Wouldnt it make sense that the ATT building, storing servers, near the city, where businesses are, that I'd get the speeds, since its not to far from me. Maybe its for the Enterprise businesses, and not just the smaller businesses?

I'll quote the page.

ATT said:
What will it do for me?

# Protect Your Computer - State-of-the-art firewall software shields your computer from unauthorized access and email virus protection software keeps your system safe from infected emails.

# Eliminate Pop-Up Ads - An integrated pop-up blocker prevents those annoying ads from interrupting your Internet experience.

# Free Dial-Up Access - Use unlimited access to AT&T Yahoo! Dial when traveling throughout the United States.

# Fry the Spam - The SpamGuard feature helps keep unwanted emails from clogging up your inbox.

# Highly Customizable - The browser and home page can be changed to suit your preferences as often as you would like.

# Smooth Transition - Email forwarding and address-change notification makes switching easy and invisible to your friends and family.

# Stay In Touch Instantly - AT&T Yahoo! Messenger, complete with high-quality video, allows you to instant message all of your customers, employees, and colleagues.

# You Ought To Be In Pictures - Share and store your digital photographs online with others using AT&T Yahoo! Photos. You have an unlimited amount of storage space so you can keep all of your digital pictures safe and available online.

# Dynamic IP Addresses - Every time you log on to the Internet, your computer is assigned a new, unique IP address, making it more difficult for hackers to find you.

Options

# AT&T Wireless Gateway - Share one high-speed Internet connection with up to ten high-speed Internet-capable computers or other devices.

# Customer Self-Installation - Install your Internet service yourself and save money while obtaining the installation that's best for you.

# Technician Installation - A service technician visits your location and installs your Internet service. $200 fee applies.

Its really this, or Comcast Cable.

There shouldn't be different ATT facilities, where only one serves the small business internet side and not residential. Most likely that building you see is where businesses store their servers.

Yeah, that would make some sense. We'll probably end up ordering it tomorrow, I tried earlier, but the place already closed.

Everything else check out OK?

Thanks.

Well.
Were paying like $35 now, for their highest Residential Package, the Elite Package. The highest Small Business Package, is labeled Elite, which is $55. The speeds seem relatively the same. Its really the perks, that I like. Like the guaranteed up time 99.9% of the time, first section to go up after an outage, the Residential goes up after the Businesses, and other stuff like that.

The only perk I see is the uptime (although it doesn't show that on the list you posted). All the rest are just gimmicks, I can't believe they are trying to say that a dynamic IP is better for businesses, especially if your business has servers.

I heard the uptime for the Sales rep I spoke with on the phone.

But overall, what do you think? I mean, we will probably order this internet, due to the fact, I dont like our current package, its to sporadic with the speeds. I'll give this Small Business Package a chance, and use what I can, to my advantage. Due to my location, its limited, between two companies, ATT and Comcast. Some of the residents in the building have Comcast, and through out the week, I am in the elevator with a Comcast Tech, I see their van scurrying around our neighborhood. I rarely, see an ATT van.

Anyways. Lol.

I still wouldn't expect the speeds to be that much different since your getting the same advertised speeds. Are you paying for this?

ATT has the absolute worst customer service I have encountered in a long time. I have many users at my work that use ATT at their homes, and when they have problems they always ask their IT guy. I have spent countless hours on the phone with their support just trying to get a hold of the local guy who does the installs to get a system together. They couldn't even connect me to their local installation team.

I got transferred to tier 2 tech support and that was a joke. I gave up and told my users to just get Time Warner.

I am actually looking into Comcast Business. Its a little bit more, but its 8mb down and 1mb up, and if/when it goes down, a rep will be in within 4 hours, where as Residential people have to wait a few days.

Alright, well, I am planning on calling Comcast tomorrow, and ordering the Business Enhanced Package, which is the higher package, of the 3. 8mb Down, 1mb Up. I am going to try and get them to my place as soon as possible, if that fails, I'll ask about the Self-Installation Kit, which they say is easy to install. Anyone have any feedback on this? Any problems?

Thanks.

Ug, comcast sucks too. I had to deal with them at my last job. They love to price gouge and their service is very bad, but not as bad as ATT.
